I am by no means a hardcore gamer, while I dedicate a significant amount of time (too much my lovely GF would suggest) to World of Warcraft, I am not a natural gamer. I have had to work very hard to be, what I would consider to be, an above average player.
I thought I would take some time to talk about some of my other games and interests
It may give you all a little insight into what makes Mr Upyursh tick, for what that’s worth
Counter Strike Source – I am not really all that good and my WiMax connection can mean I’m running at double or triple the latency as some of my fellow gun wielding hooligans. Regardless I enjoy going in and shooting people, for some, strange reason it’s relaxing. I also like the appeal of a quick 2-3 minute round, it’s not a big investment of my time and I can jump on for a few rounds between other obligations.
Facebook – I very much enjoy knowing how all of my friends and acquaintances are doing, I like to know that somebody I knew from school is having a child, or that it’s their birthday. While I do not necessarily see these people on a day-to-day basis I still wish them all well and as much as possible, I feel apart of what they are doing despite my busy/hectic lifestyle of travelling for work a lot.
Cards – I enjoy cards a lot, from playing “May I” with my nanna and pop as a child, through to mine and Leng’s first date where we ended up playing Chinese Poker, cards have been a part of my life. Their is something about it that is just so comforting and exciting, despite the basic nature of it. In more recent years I have spent time learning various forms of Poker and used Online Poker sites. Sites like http://www.onlinepoker.com/ is definitely worth a look if you have an interest in playing online (they even have some links to free games!
)
DotA – DotA was a game a played a lot in Malaysia with some geeky friends from work
It is a map for Warcraft III and is great fun. It has lead to the creation of games like League of Legends etc and I believe a DotA2 is on Steam (but not yet released). It’s great fun and again, not a huge investment in time/money. Each game lasts up to a couple of hours (depending on the balance of the teams) but once it’s finished you start again, so you do not need to live with bad purchase/strategy decisions for long
Basketball – Since highschool I have loved basketball, I used to play all the time. I enjoy watching the NBA (although thanks to Australian TV I don’t see many) and I even managed to get over to Chicago for a Finals game in 2011 (when the Bulls beat Miami! the only game they won for the series unfortunately). Its an exciting game to watch and a fun game to participate in.
Other than these things my focus is really on my family and my work, both are higher priorities than all of the above of course
Upy
