Soul Bound Trade – Open to Abuse

Well I was reading through the 3.2 Patch Notes and found this little gem;

Players will now be able to trade soulbound items with other raid or group members that were eligible for the loot. This system will work like the Item Buy Back system and allow 2 hours for players to trade an item after it has been looted. Players who choose to enchant or add gems to the item will get one last confirmation before losing the ability to trade the item.

Now on the surface this seems like a great idea, I would suspect that a large number of incoming Game Tickets for the GM’s are  Master Loot errors, so this will hopefully allow the Ticket Queue to shrink and be more focussed on real issues players are facing.

It does however open up the door for abuse;

  1. I am in a group running through H-VH and my buddy really needs an item, we both roll Greed/Need as expected and I win the blue/purple item. I can then (within 2 hours) trade him the item and nobody is the wiser
  2. I am in a raid with Master Looter and a DKP System in place, I have the highest DKP and an item drops for my MS.  Somebody who is trying to build up their Offspec set whispers me and offers to pay me 1000g for me to bid and use my DKP for that item.

Their is nothing that we can do about the first scenario really, in cases where you are pugging for example it is impossible to follow up.

The second scenario leaves guilds with two choices as I see it;

  1. Master Looters have to be diligent on checking a players current item (even this can be hard if you’re dealing with a particularly shifty character who switches to his ‘crappy’ set prior to loot starting) and deciding if it is a ‘reasonable’ upgrade or side-grade.
  2. Guild Rules be updated to make it clear on your stance on the practice of DKP ‘selling’ and outlined punishments if applicable.

Now some may say who cares, if somebody wants to blow away their DKP for a friend/gold then good for them, but the DKP system is designed so the more you put in the more you get :) this pretty much kicks that square in the nuts.
